Let me keep it short and sweet!
I have been making glass beads for almost three years now. It began with an interest in jewellery making and developed after my sister bought me a lampworker's starter kit from Tuffnell's on EBay. I remember being unsure what to do with the rods of glass and the little brass torch until a flyer, offering lessons with Martin and Teresa fell out of the box. The glass rods fascinated me, I picked up the phone...and the rest is history.
I am not a natural lampworker - indeed it took over a year of daily practice to consistently produce a round bead. My problem was the molten glass fascinated me so much that I kept forgetting to keep the bead turning! Coupled with the fact that I was ensconced at the bottom of the garden in a garage with no heat or light, my bead making career was slow and ponderous. BUT, I was free to experiment and think. I do a lot of thinking when I'm making my beads.
My beads are a response the different experiences that I have during any one day. You may not be able to share the experience but you can share the bead. I take pride in knowing that a part of my creativity is a part of other people's lives!
